On Sunday, 19 October 2025, Garry Marsden’s family and friends will come together as “Garry’s Army”, joining hundreds of walkers at Walk4BrainCancer Parramatta to raise vital funds for Cure Brain Cancer Foundation (CBCF) and honour Garry’s brave fight against brain cancer. 

Garry was diagnosed with glioblastoma in August 2023 and courageously underwent brain surgery on his 64th birthday. He fought bravely throughout his treatment, undergoing radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and infusions, and received exceptional care from the Brain Cancer team at Royal North Shore Hospital. 

Throughout his journey, Garry approached each day with courage, positivity, and his signature sense of humour, leaving a lasting impression until his passing on 16 January 2025. 

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Delma, family, and friends: 

“Garry was gentle, caring, and larger than life – always ready with a laugh and wanting to help anyone in need,” Delma shares. “He loved his family, sports, and life itself. He always wanted to help the person coming through the door behind him, and we’re carrying on that legacy by walking in his honour.”

Last year, Garry proudly joined Walk4BrainCancer Parramatta with his family by his side and spoke at the event, sharing words of encouragement and positivity with everyone affected by brain cancer. 

This year, Garry’s Army - made up of Garry’s wife Delma, his children and partners Bryce, Jake, Tessa, Laura, Liz, Callum and his grandchild Eloise - will continue his legacy, raising awareness and funds to support research for this devastating disease. Walk4BrainCancer Parramatta brings the community together to support Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, Australia’s leading organisation dedicated to funding innovative brain cancer research. Participants will gather at Parramatta Park for a scenic 5km walk along the Parramatta River, with a community BBQ, music, and entertainment for all ages. This year, the event aims to raise $70,000 for critical brain cancer research and advocacy initiatives.
